Srinagar, Jun 24 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam on Monday said to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A Police party of Police Station Qazigund established a checkpoint at Shampora Crossing near NHW. The police party intercepted a vehicle (Alto-800) bearing registration number JK03L-5348 driven by Bilal Ahmad Reshi son of Mohd Abdullah Reshi resident of Danew Nagnaran, Anantnag, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During the search, 3.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw and a digital weighing machine were recovered. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 174/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said—(KNO)
